With no Mario to be found at the GC's launch, his brother Luigi had to give gamers a reason to buy a one. Armed with a vacuum and flashlight, Luigi roams a haunted mansion, sucking up ghosts for Professer E. Gadd, and saving his brother from the evil King Boo. LM presents this scenerio wonderfully, with graphics to die for and a control scheme that works so well. The dialog is wholesom Nintendo stuff that younger gamers will feel right at home with, and should manage to keep older gamers charmed so they'll stick with Luigi to the very end. The light-hearted sound effects (i.e. when Luigi sucks up a ghost in his "Poltergust", the game makes a cartoony "Shhhhthlorp!" sound) are a nice touch. The music is kinda catchy as well. Now don't go thinking the entire game is sucking up ghosts, because a wealth of puzzles, and bosses await you. "Portrait" ghosts (once pictures of ghosts that were set free) kinda serve as mini-bosses, as you'll have to figure out their weak spot in order to capture them. And of course, you can't have a ghost game without Boos (no, not beer). Once you rid a room in the mansion of whatever ghost inhabits it, your GameBoy Horror will detect that a Boo is present in the room-and there are 50 total in the game. Overall the game is kind of on the short side, but you NEED something that has to do with Mario, so check it out.
Graphics-9 The graphics are stunning. The best thing about that? It's the same visuals for both cinemas and actual playing parts. Nice!
Sound-8 The music isn't as good as in most Mario games, but the main theme is very catchy, and the sound effects are perfect for a game like this.
Control-8.5 The controls might stymie younger gamers at first, but they're by no means bad.
Replay-6.5 Yikes. I'm affraid once you've made it to the end, theres really no reason to play it again...unless you really feel you need to.
Overall-7.4 Theres no doubting that this games needs to be expirienced at least once, so please rent it. If your one of those Mario fanatics who own every game in the series-including spinoffs- though, this is a nice addition. It is after all, Luigi's first outing by himself.
