Evel Knievil move aside, cause Freekstyle is in the house! SSX meets the Metal Mulisha in this motocross game from EA Big, and speaking of big, we've got big air, tricks and tracks. Unlike SSX, the riders are real people, featuring the Metal Mulisha founder Brian Deegan, the founder of hot chicks on bikes (does it get any better?!) LeAnn Tweeden, and many other riders to join the party. Freekstyle also has the best showing of the blur effect in Freekout mode. The dirt tracks are nice, but those who are against you are CHEAP! The AI is only out to beat you, no matter how unrealistically faster than you they have to go. Also, the controls are a little hard to get accustomed to, since the gas and boost are way too close. Other than that, the game is pretty sweet.
Graphics - 7. The tracks are beautifully created, but the bikes seem a little thin from the rearview. Maybe that's just me since I've never stood behind a moto-X biker, for fear that they'll go in revers and run over me. I've always had bad experiences standing behind vehicles...
Sound - 8. Can you hear the motors humming? I can, and it sounds sweet! However the soundtrack is repetitive, since it only changes by track. And believe me, you're doing them tracks repeatedly a lot.
Controls - 6. I've complained about them already, stating that the gas and boost are too close, and the trick buttons aren't all too responsive.
Replay - 8. It's a sports game, so you obviously have a lot of replay value. I'm only saying that because every sports (sim or action) has a high rating here.
Overall - 7.8. This is the one game where a high speed racer like Wipeout meets the mud, and they swallow it hard. Before I picked up this game, I was a little skeptical, thinking that it was only going to be EA Big's dirtbike version of SSX. But now that I think of it, that's a damn good thing, as this game proves. Now excuse me, I'm gonna go Freekout.
